The Tyger Turns One!!

Well we can't believe it but our littlest guy has just turned one. It is amazing how fast time flies. It seems like he was just taking his first cry in an operating room in Utah thinking that we would be living in Spanish Fork for another 18 months or more, and now here we are a year later on the other side of the country!! How funny life can be. So here are a few pictures to celebrate the event. Taylor's dad started the tradition of making the first birthday cake for the kids before turning the duties over to his mother. Taylor has kept up the tradition in our family and has really looked forward to doing it for the kids. He was a little worried that he wouldn't be able to this year because of how busy school has been keeping him, but in the end he was able to squeeze it in. He decided to go with the pirate ship for Tyson and it really turned out cute. I think he did an amazing job. I really want him to do all the birthday cakes in our family, but I'm still trying to convince him!
Like most families we made a bigger cake for friends and family to eat, and then a little cake just for Tyson to dig into. The plan is easy in theory -- strip Tyson out of his clothes so that he can dig into his cake with both hands, smear it all over his face and body, and basically just have a ball. So here is his cake...
...And here is Tyson after he had had his fun. I don't know what it is about our kids but neither one of them have really gotten a good grasp as to what this game entails. We put the cake in front of him, got out the cameras to get some good footage of him just pigging out, and all he would do is dab his finger in it! He just never really got into it, so here is the finished product. You can tell that he just loved the cake, right.
At least he was happy to open presents. He has such an awesome smile, and a really cute personality that is starting to show through quite a bit. We are glad he was in such a good mood for his birthday, he had been sick for a good 4 or 5 days before it, so any smile at all was greatly appreciated. He had a good time opening presents, but Cade had an even better time. Cade was more than willing to open everything up for him by using the excuse that he was teaching Tyson how. It was fun.
It was hard to decide what to get Ty for his birthday. He already has all the clothes and toys he needs, and we couldn't think of anything else so we ended up just getting him a few toys from the grandmas and grandpas, and then a new car seat. I love it when they can finally turn around in the car and face forward! Anyway in the end it really didn't matter what we got him because his favorite thing to play with when all was said and done was...you guessed it, the plastic covering that came with the toy. Why do we even try? :-)

Happy birthday Tyson, We love you!
